Saudi Diamonds

The call came from Clarence one afternoon who extended an invitation to go out north of Riyadh to one of the flat plains on the northern escarpment where hardly a blade of grass let alone any clumps of bushes grew. But strewn out across this vast vista were small hard clear quartz stones that shone when place between the sun and ones eye. We set out at O dark thirty (03:30am) on Thursday, the 10th of July 2008 in order to arrive before sun rise to catch the sun's rays that would cause the stones to stand out among the vast numbers of jagged rock, ordinary stones, and black lava stone. After searching with lots of binding and respectful sandwich bag about a quarter full of relatively clear stones that when polished will glisten. Some of these stones, when cut and polished, make beautiful rings. One day we'll show some of these stones.
